- 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 lean to fat ratio)
- 1 pound mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
- Sauté mushrooms, onions, and garlic in olive oil until softened
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed vegetables, eggs, breadcrumbs, and seasonings
- Mix in shredded Swiss cheese
- Form into a loaf in a 9×5 inch loaf pan
- Spread ketchup on top
- Bake for 1 hour or until internal temperature reaches 160°F
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing
Notes
- Can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance
- Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing to prevent falling apart
- Can substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère, provolone, or white cheddar
- For dairy-free version, omit cheese or use dairy-free alternatives
